The most convenient dishes for storing food in the refrigerator are plastic bags, enameled and rectangular plastic containers. Such containers are easy to place on shelves. These containers can store a variety of products.

A convenient container for storing food in the refrigerator are bags made of plastic film. In this case, only bags made specifically for food should be used. The use of other plastic bags, such as those for textiles, is unsafe due to the potential for migration of plasticizers and other chemicals in food. The plastic bag does not absorb moisture and is slightly permeable to gases, so the product in it breathes. Polyethylene is especially good for storing small amounts of fruits and vegetables. At the same time, vegetables and fruits ripen, consume sugar, lose moisture, release carbon dioxide, which accumulates in a closed plastic bag, slows down metabolic processes and prevents premature spoilage of food. Parchment or greased paper packaging works in much the same way, helping to extend the shelf life of, for example, apples. However, storing paper-wrapped products in a refrigerator is undesirable for two reasons: firstly, they take up a lot of space, are difficult to find and remove, and secondly, normal air circulation inside the chamber is disrupted and the living conditions of the products deteriorate.

Conventional shaped pots and plates are unsuitable containers for storing food in the refrigerator: in this case, the volume of the chamber is used unproductively. Finally, there are a number of products for which certain types of dishes are simply contraindicated. So oil and greasy foods cannot be stored in plastic containers because they deteriorate quickly. From long-term storage in an aluminum container, the milk acquires an unpleasant taste. Food packaging in the refrigerator must at the same time protect the products from drying out, from the absorption of odors and from the ingress of oxygen, which supports biochemical processes and accelerates the aging of the products.

Do not store products in tin cans in the refrigerator. Before packing the products, it is better to cool the container slightly in the refrigerator. Otherwise, condensed moisture will soon appear inside the package, especially on vegetables, and they will soon deteriorate. The bread can be stored in a tightly closed box in the refrigerator for almost a week: it will not allow to dry out, and the low temperature will protect the bread from mold. Pies, cakes and rolls left over from the holidays will be great in the freezer. But these recommendations do not apply to pies with cabbage, onions, eggs - freezing worsens the taste of these fillings.
